Meet Joshua
Joshua, a Michigan native and Navy veteran, has been the Director of Programs and Operations at Motor City Grounds Crew since 2017. He partners and collaborates with local community organizations to activate parks and green spaces, organizes youth sports programs with local partners, and co-founded Detroit's first community tool library. Before returning to Detroit, Joshua worked at The Mission Continues, a national nonprofit for veterans, where he managed service projects nationwide for veterans and nonprofits.
In 2012, he began volunteering with Team Red, White, and Blue, helping veterans connect with their communities through physical and social activities, serving as a local leader for several chapters for about eight years. Joshua's service began in 2011 at Veterans Village of San Diego, which assists homeless veterans with addiction issues. He started as a part-time night program coordinator at a veterans' shelter and quickly became the community projects coordinator. As shelter director, he worked to provide services for veterans seeking housing, jobs, and VA benefits.
Joshua served in the U.S. Navy from 2003 to 2007, then earned a Bachelor's in Public Administration and a Master's in Homeland Security from San Diego State University. He lives in Detroit's Boston Edison area with his partner, Janelle, and their children, Ezra and Harbour. He enjoys running, traveling with family, and following MSU and Detroit sports.
